FIELD DAY 1994 @ KA2BEO This photo was taken by John's wife, Michelle, N2QJC, at the end of our 24-hour marathon. John, N2PHX, (on the right) and I were completely exhausted and tired of sweating during one of the hottest weekends we've had this summer. It was grueling, but we had a blast. We kept the BBQ busy with dogs and burgers. We set up one HF station outside on a picnic table for daytime activities and one inside for nightime. This maximized our operating time. VHF and packet stations were also inside the motor home. Unfortunately, we couldn't get the packet working right. Our 40-meter dipole went up in 10 minutes without a hitch - amazing! Since 1981, this was only the second Field Day that I ever organized. I was suprised to see the operation run so smoothly. I guess practice does make perfect. We had everything we needed and then some. The antenna you see on the side of the motor home is a TV antenna, which we didn't have time (or desire) to use. With a 4 kW generator, five fully-charged car batteries, and a 1 kW inverter on hand, we had plenty of emergency power available. This Field Day was an experimental one. Next year we're going much BIGGER! More people, radios, and publicity. I hope everyone had as much fun as we did! 73. Rob, KA2BEO. "Please repeat. Did you say dupe or DOPE!?" PS - I never sent the registration forms in for our contacts in FD `81 even though I had the mayor declare it Amateur Radio Week in our town. So I enclosed a copy of the proclaimation just in case you would like to have it for your records.
